Our star of the weeks seems to be hiding behind the clouds. So here is my attempt to bring him out. 😁. Last time I met Shikya was in Dec 80 or 81. We were both in Nagpur. Raju Jog, Shikya’s classmate in instrumentation course (I think) in Pune, was also in Nagpur. Raju’s father was Superintending Engineer for Totladoha dam project. So he offered to take us to the site. We had a nice outing that day and enjoyed the hospitality at PWD guest house. Narendra देशपांडे

Shrikant Sagdeo
Shripad,
Fondly called as Shikya initially within limited gp of Rajiv Parkhi, myself, and raju jog(who was in our class but left for Mumbai in few years). Later he mixed up with Laxmi nagar gp after Engg even so smoothly.
Shikya was “shendephal” amongst siblings in his family staying in Laxminagar near my house. His elder Bro called Dutta(who is unfortunately no more) n sisters were all his admirers. I remember his house had a big backyard n many gava trees. My spl attraction visiting him was to get those fruits n eat.
My interaction with Shikya after school was much less as he was away doing his Engg. Later, post Engg both were away n coincidently happened to meet at Nagpur rarely. Our mtg at hotel Ashoka hosted by Milind was after long long time.
I know shikya as a very gentle person, uska koi dushman ho hi nahi sakta. Shikya, I don’t have much to share as of. I wish you and family a very successful, happy, healthy, and prosperous life.
Looking forward to meet again soon.

Nice to read your story Shikya. Tell us more about Nigeria. How was your stay, how are the people and work culture.

Girish
Nigieran is happiest person, living in the present not bothered about future like us Very strong build. Good part is everyone Speak English better than us (me) We had one traine girl working on Boiler maintenance and one valve (heavy) was to take to work shop we’re waiting for the rigger to come and lift.

Girl requested to allow her to take by staircase To our surprise she lifted valve like a small kid and came to WS at ease. Most of workforce is healthy V shape body without going to gim power of “garry” their local food. Even though outside there is poverty, shortage of power n water but maid/staff will come well-dressed to house/office greet us without complaining.
Genetically Nigerian girls have small curly hairs n bald even men are bald. But they take this in +ve way put different hair styles with wig every 15-20 days which Indian lady miss. First time I saw different shades of black skin some are darker than coal shining
They enjoy the life.Even on road if you are injured n with bandage unknown person will say sorry This U miss in India. However, some of them are master hacker, crooked which u find every everywhere The population is 50% Muslim n Christian politicians exploit them. We are placed at Port Harcourt temp variation is 15- 30 degC , rains for 6-7 month and summer no winter, cool climate. Outside is not safe to move as we live within camp well placed.
While moving outside you feel VIP as escorted by military but risky While I was in Senegal for some period experience was totally different free movement. Senegalese are fond of exercise Even on road / bridges you can see people jogging / doing dips at late nights in villages/cities
At Dakar surprisingly at beaches they hv double bar/ single bar and in groups u find doing exercise.. No “bhelpuri” ..Only problem they talk French. Wishwas is everywhere ( Google baba) makes easy.
As expat you face different challenges to tackle delicately as we work on their land

Thanks Shikya for brief sharing of your life journey, we shall get to know more once you comeback and relax in India. Wishing you wonderful life with family and company of good friends. Enjoy.
Case of girl lifting a valve, where rigging was planned is unbelievable, one can imagine really remarkable physical capacity. Exercising on road is also catching up in India now, more so in Pune.
Staying with different society / people is always interesting and normally good experience basically if you are not prejudiced. Shrikant is great narrator and will have many more experiences to share … so also I expect from few more in our group

How is the life on streets? I was told that it is unwise to move after dark. I was involved in a prestigious project (prayer hall/church) in Abuja. As I was getting out of my company I never had opportunity to visit. My partner visited the place. I think construction might have started. Your story was very interesting!

Shrikant giving party to Nigerian beauties on woman’s day. Can anyone guess who is Shikya’s GF. Correct answer – free trip to Nigeria
1975- 2001- 2019
Probably these years I met Shripad. There was almost no interaction after 1975 however school bonding brought everyone together in 2001 & we could revive old memories . Then after a long gap of 18 years we surprisingly met at at Kolkata Airport in 2019 . He was coming from ( Shillong ) his honeymoon no ( n ) 😛 Don’t know
Nigeria he preferred as his कर्मभुमी. I always wondered how he could live so many years without much of family life since Supriya served here in Bank. Shrikant any Black beauty जादु? .You can tell me privately if not in group. Right now he is in Nagpur & has decided to come back to settle down hopefully in Nagpur. Although he is not seen much in group still enjoys being part of it. I wish him & Supriya peaceful life & enjoy youth part 3 – Sixty + 🌷🌷🌷
