१९७५ साली लिबरल एज्युकेशन सोसायटीच्या हडस हायस्कूल या शाळेतून आम्ही सर्व ११ वी मॅट्रिक पास झालो. तेंव्हा ११ वी ची आमची शेवटची बॅच होती. आमच्या वर्गात तेंव्हा ८ मुली आणि साधारण ३०-३५ मुले होती. मला आकडा नक्की आठवत नाही. आम्ही मुली फारच कमी असल्यामुळे आमच्यात बऱ्यापैकी एकी होती आणि ह्याच दुसरं कारण म्हणजे तेंव्हा मुले आणि मुली एकमेकांशी बोलत नसत, तेंव्हा भांडून कसं चालेल? आता मुलांशी का बोलत नव्हतो, ह्याला कारण असं काही नाही. पण त्या काळी तशी पद्धत नव्हती असं म्हटलं तरी चालेल. मला अजूनही आपल्याला Send Off  दिला तो  दिवस आठवतो. तो क्षण असा होता कि कॉलेजच  मोकळं वातावरण खुणावत होत व शाळेतल्या आपल्या सवंगड्याना वारंवार भेटू शकणार नाही ह्याची खंत होती. अशा वातावरणात सुतवणे सरांनी म्हंटलेलं भावपूर्ण गाणं ‘अशी पाखरे येति आणिक स्मृती ठेवुनी जाती’ हे ऐकून मलातरी गहिवरून आलं होत. खरं बघितलं तर आपण कितीही मोठं झालो तरी बालपणीच्या व शाळेच्या गोष्टी निघाल्यावर प्रत्येकजण त्या विश्वात रमतो, सुखावतो.

आपण आता खऱ्या अर्थानं नवीन सहस्त्रकात पदार्पण केलं आहे. आपण शालेय शिक्षण पूर्ण करून २५ वर्षे झाली. बरेचदा आपल्या काही जणांची म्हणजे धनंजय परांडे, राजू पारखी वगैरेंची भेट झाल्यावर आपण आपल्या वर्गातील मुलं मुळींच get-to-gather करूया हा विषय निघायचा व तिथंच थांबायचा. कदाचित प्रत्येक गोष्ट घडायला योग यावा लागतो असं म्हणतात तेच खरं आहे. ७-८ दिवसापूर्वीच आमच्यापैकी नरेंद्र देशपांडे जो सध्या ऑस्ट्रेलियात राहतो, तो माहेरपणासाठी नागपुरात आल्याचं कळलं व आपल्याबरोबरच्या शाळेतल्या मित्र मैत्रिणींना भेटायची इच्छा आहे असे समजल्यावर चक्र भराभर फिरत गेली. इतकी वर्ष जी गोष्ट साध्य होत नव्हती ती ६ – ७ दिवसात पूर्णत्वाला आली. राजू पारखी, धनंजय परांडे, हितेंद्र पांडे व आशुतोष ह्या सगळ्यांनी पुढाकार घेऊन नागपूरातील आणि परगावातील मित्रांना ह्या कार्यक्रमाबद्दल सांगितले. परंतु ही अतिशय short notice असल्यामुळे सर्वांना with family येणं जमलं नाही. आपण एका चांगल्या क्षणाला मुकणार ह्याच त्यांना वाईट वाटल. पण पुढच्या वेळी आपण हे स्नेहमिलन परगावच्या सोयीनीच ठरवणार आहोत. नागपुरातील मित्र मैत्रिणींचे पत्ते शोधून त्यांना कळवायला फारसा वेळ लागला नाही. आणि अश्या प्रकारे आजचा हा कार्यक्रम ठरला. ह्या सगळ्या धावपळीत मला एक गोष्ट प्रकर्षाने जाणविली ती अशी कि ज्याला म्हणून प्रकर्षाने या संदर्भात आपण भेटलो त्या प्रत्येकाची असं संमेलन व्हावं अशी इच्छा होती. ह्या गोष्टीचा जरा अंतर्मुख होऊन विचार केला तेंव्हा एकमेकाबद्दल वाटणारी आपुलकी, प्रेम व विश्वास हीच ह्यामागची कारण असावीत हे जाणवले. आता कार्यक्रम कसा असावा ह्याची चर्चा सुरू झाली व प्रत्येकजण आपलं वय विसरून शाळेतल्या आठवणींमध्ये स्वतःला विसरून गेला. त्यानंतर कुठे जमायचं, काय कार्यक्रम करायचे हे ठरल्यावर तब्बल  २५ वर्षांनी हा सुवर्णदिन उगवला.

“Acting on a good idea is much better than having a good idea.”

हे वाक्य आम्ही फिरायला जातो तेंव्हा Seminary Hill जवळील परिवारात एका बोर्डवर लिहिलेल मी रोज वाचते. पण ते खरोखर किती योग्य आहे ह्याची प्रचिती मला आज सगळ्यांचे प्रफुल्लित चेहरे बघितल्यावर आली.

आता ह्या संमेलनाला मोठ्यांचे आशीर्वाद हवेतच, म्हणूनच आई वडिल्यांच्या बरोबरीने आपल्याला ज्यांनी घडविले, अभ्यासाबरोबर शिस्त आणि माणुसकी ज्यांनी ज्यांनी शिकविली, त्या गुरुजनांना पण आमच्या आनंदात सहभागी करायचं आम्ही ठरवल. आज २५ वर्षानंतर त्याच्या सहवासाचा आनंद लुटता यावा म्हणून श्री पेंढारकर सर व त्यांच्या सुविद्य  पत्नी, श्री एकताटे सर, डॉक्टर सोनी सर, श्री नांदगावकर सर व त्यांची पत्नी ह्यांना आमंत्रण दिल्यावर आम्ही सगळे अजूनही त्यांना विसरलो नाही या गोष्टीचा आनंद झाला. ह्या सगळ्यांनी आपल्या व्यस्त दिनचर्येतून आमच्यासाठी वेळ काढला ह्याबद्दल आम्हा सर्वांतर्फे त्यांची आभारी आहे. सहजच मनात विचार आला की आपल्यासारखे असंख्य विद्यार्थी आपल्या या शिक्षकांच्या हाताखालून जात असतील. एवढ्या सगळ्यांना लक्षात ठेवायचं म्हणजे जरा कठीणंच काम आहे ना. अशावेळी शिक्षक व विद्यार्थी ह्यातील महत्वाचा दुआ म्हणजे, विद्यार्थ्यांचा शिक्षकाबद्दलचा आदर व त्यांचं विद्यार्थ्यांवरील प्रेम. अर्थात निर्व्याज प्रेम व आपुलकी ह्यामुळेच आज आपण सर्व एका कुटुंबाप्रमाणे एकत्र आलो आहोत.

ह्याप्रसंगी मला अजून एक सांगावस वाटत की आम्ही सगळे एकत्र शिकलो, वाढलो व क्वचित प्रसंगी भांडलोही. आमच्यात रेशीमबंध आहेत  म्हणून आम्ही एकत्र आलो. पण आमच्या सहाध्यायींच्या बायका, नवरे व मुलंही तितक्याच प्रेमाने व उत्साहाने सहभागी झाले, सामावले हा खरोखरीच कौतुकास्पद आहे. आपल्या सर्वांचा उत्साह आणि अमूल्य साथ आम्हाला यापुढेही हवी आहे. तेंव्हा आपण २५ वर्षापर्यंत काही कारणास्तव जमू शकलो नाही याची खंत करायचं सोडून यापुढे एकमेकांच्या सुखदुःखात सामील होऊया. आज जस जमलो तस वारंवार भेटूया. मला खात्री आहे की आपल्या सगळ्यांमधल्या निर्व्याज प्रेमातून आपली मुलं बराच काही शिकतील.

भूतकाळ मनुष्याला स्मृतीचा आनंद देतो असं म्हणतात. आज बऱ्याच वर्षांनी आपण सर्व तो अनुभवणार आहोत कारण आजचा वर्तमानकाळ आपल्याला तो अनुभवायची संधी देतोय. असा तिलकशर्करायोग जुळून आला आहे. त्याचा आपण मनमुराद आनंद लुटूया व ‘प्रौढत्वी निज शैशवास जपणे’ ही उक्ती सार्थ करूया.

We begin these lines by saluting with reverence, our beloved alma mater – Hadas High School and our teachers.

Friends, great authors have a knack of shovelling a heap of thoughts in few words. We quote below a famous author, Christopher Morley who said :

“The three ingredients of a good life are,

Learning, earning and yearning.”

In retrospect, at the Hadas High School, we not only shared education but many good values of life such as responsibility, honesty, humility, perseverance, tolerance etc. Education at the school gave us a beacon, by which, we navigated our way through the winding lanes of our life.

Walking through the wilderness of life, we have left behind 25 long years since we passed out from the school in the year 1975. The pursuit of career distanced us from each other towards upwardly mobile life. However, reminiscences of the times we spent in our beloved school are very much fresh in our minds. Life at Hadas High school was indeed joyful. Thise were the days, let’s say!

Today, we are all shaking the time tree! One is often drawn back to the memorable times that leave behind them “footprints on the sands of time”. Alas, the footprints blur, memory fades! Today’s reunion will go a long way in helping us preserve those nostalgic memories among the most treasured things in our life. As we browse back, an extraordinary thing is happening today.

One more thought that strongly strikes our minds is that, how would it be if, we keep meeting again and again in future also. When communication technology has made networking all the more easy, we ought to stay in touch with each other. So, let’s think of broadening our ties, making our relationships more meaningful. Who knows, together we may be able work out something good for our alma mater, our society or our own children.

It’s a pity that some of us could not make it to today’s function due to the constraints of time or distance. All those who were contacted have profusely expressed their sentiments about the blissful schooldays and their desire to meet the batchmates. Let us take up the onus of contacting them, inform them that we missed them today and work out plans to increase the involvement of our friends of 1975 batch in the future meetings.

This was followed by introduction of classmates and family members. Everyone remembered the golden days at Hadas High School and spoke about his / her achievements in life after leaving the school.

Our esteemed teachers present on the occasion were:

Narendra Deshpande with his handy-cam and Rajiv Parkhi with his camera were engrossed during the whole session capturing excitement and cheer in the surroundings.

On this occasion, Ashutosh and Sucheta presented a Recipe Book “Annada”, written by his mother. This was for expressing their affection towards the classmates. Narendra Deshpande presented an attractive calendar titled “Caring Friends, which he had specially brought from Australia.

Anil Ingole proposed the vote of thanks to all the participants and also to those who could not make it to the function but had sent their warm good wishes. He specially thanked Ashutosh Chitaley, Dhananjay Parande and Rajiv Parkhi for organising the function in such a short span of time.

The highlight of the function was the Chat & Pani Puri which children, family members and even the teachers relished during the break. The meet concluded with a delicious eight course Dinner.

FOREWORD

It is giving us great pleasure to present this precious collection of happy moments of the get-to-gather of our batchmates i.e. 1975 HSSC Batch of Hadas High School, Nagpur. We all met after a long span of 25 years. We take this as the “Silver Jubilee” year to look forward to our relationship with a new perspective.

In 1975, we parted from each other from our beloved alma mater for further education. It is needless to mention that, every member of our family (yes, we call our batch a family) left behind unforgettable memories of our association during school days. Since long, we have been trying to meet all our friends at one place to exchange our passions.

Finally, after a long wait of 25 years, we could make it. To our pleasant surprise, response from all our batchmates was great.  We had just a week’s time at our disposal to pool in our old friends along with their families who in turn, also anxious to see their cheerful parents gone young by twenty five years.

In addition to the batchmates, the presence of some of our teachers was heartening indeed. They specially attended the function to bless the students and were touched by the gratitude shown by the students towards them.

All those living in the city made it a point to attend the get-to-gather. Not much difficulty was experienced in contacting friends staying outside Nagpur. However, it was not possible for them to attend the function within such a short time margin.

We deem this get-to-gather a milestone and hope to keep meeting our batchmates in the times to come. Let us continue to be in touch for knowing more and more about each other.

We trust that all of us will participate in such attempts with greater enthusiasm for realising the purpose of holding this function and strengthening our ties.

कुणावर काय प्रसंग कधी आणि कुठे येईल काही सांगता येत नाही,आणि एखादी छोटी घटना एखाद्याचे संपूर्ण आयुष्यच बदलून टाकते! या आपत्तीतून मार्ग काढण्यास जे हात पुढे येतात,ते हातच मग आयुष्यभर आपल्याला कठीण प्रसंगी इतरांना मदत करण्याची प्रेरणा देतात.
अशीच एक घटना एकतीस वर्षांपूर्वी माझ्या भावासोबत घडली,तो दिवस आम्ही कुणीच कधी विसरू शकत नाही,आणि ज्या देवदूतांनी आम्हाला मदत केली त्यांनाही! माझे गुरू आणि पवित्र अशा डॉक्टरी पेशातील व्यक्ती या तर सेवाभावी वृत्तीमुळे आमच्यासारख्या शेकडो माणसांवर ओळख,प्रेम आणि कर्तव्यापोटी असे उपकार रोजच करत असतील,पण फारशी ओळख नसतांना धावून जाणारी आणि कोणत्याही प्रसिद्धीपासून दूर राहून निस्वार्थीपणे माणूसकीचं दर्शन घडवणारी एक व्यक्ती मला भेटली. ती घटना आणि ती व्यक्ती (म्हणजे नागपूरचे श्री.आशुतोष चितळे) याविषयी सांगणारी ही कथा वाचण्यासाठी खालील लिंकवर जा!

Our website “HSC75 Hadas High School” has embarked upon an exciting journey today.   Thanks to Pramod for leading us into the realm which many of us may not have ever conceived. And now it is the turn of each one of us to do justice to such a good beginning.

Let us all get down to translating our thoughts into words and sentences. Let us express ourselves in a free and frank manner. You can feel free to choose a language you prefer, a subject you like, may it be an interesting story, an enviable dream, a piece of humour, a memorable event or an experience and so on. Just begin expressing yourself without any reluctance.

So, fuel your thoughts, tickle your imagination and run down the memory lane, if needed. Once you start, the momentum will build and you will wonder how significant a difference your contribution will make to this wonderful journey.
